Was eine GmbH ohne Finanzabteilung wirklich braucht

  • Umsatzsteuervoranmeldungen (UStVA), meist monatlich

  3. Was genau ist im Festpreis enthalten? Buchhaltung, UStVA, Jahresabschluss, E-Bilanz, Offenlegung, KSt und GewSt, Beratung. Hak jede Position einzeln ab.

  • Öffentlicher Preis ohne Erstgespräch: Nur so kannst du Angebote vergleichen, bevor du Zeit in Gespräche steckst.

So unterstützt dich boring.tax

EUR Berufshaftpflicht.

Online Tax Advisor for GmbHs with Fixed Pricing: 2026 Guide

Your firm has dropped you, replies only every three weeks, or suddenly adds “extra bookkeeping effort” to the invoice. At boring.tax you get a public fixed price. Behind it stands boring.tax Steuerberatungsgesellschaft mbH, a tax firm of our own with EUR 4 million of professional liability insurance per claim. That is 16 times the statutory minimum.

The full GmbH package including annual financial statements starts at EUR 335 per month. You see the price in advance in the pricing calculator, with no intro call needed. This article shows you what to watch for with fixed prices. After that we compare boring.tax with Mika, Integral, Skalar and Resolvio and give prices, liability coverage and modules for each difference.

What is an online tax advisor for a GmbH with fixed pricing?

An online tax advisor for a GmbH with fixed pricing is a licensed tax advisory firm that serves a GmbH or UG (a German limited company or its small-company variant) through digital channels (portal, bank connection, receipt upload, video call). It does not bill by fee schedule or by the hour, but agrees an amount in advance for clearly defined services.

Two things are packed into this definition, and both matter:

  • Licensed firm: Tax advice is a reserved activity in Germany. Under § 3 Steuerberatungsgesetz (German Tax Advisory Act), only tax advisors, tax advisory firms and a few other professions may provide professional help with tax matters (§ 3 StBerG on gesetze-im-internet.de). Bookkeeping software, an AI tool or a pure bookkeeping agency may neither prepare your corporate income tax return nor advise you on tax.
  • Fixed price for a defined scope: A fixed price is only as good as its service description. “GmbH from EUR 199” tells you nothing as long as you don’t know whether annual financial statements, e-balance sheet and trade tax return are included.

Online firm, tax software, AI bookkeeping: where the boundaries lie

The terms blur in the market. Many providers with “tax” in their name are software companies that broker tax advice through partner firms. Others are real firms with a digital interface but no public prices.

For you as a managing director, one question counts in the end: who is liable if something in the annual financial statements is wrong? If the answer is “a partner firm we don’t name”, you have two contracts and two contacts, even if the advertising suggests otherwise.

Why are more and more GmbHs looking for a tax advisor with a fixed price?

Because traditional firms are scarce and their billing is hard for founders to plan around. Both have tightened rather than eased in 2025 and 2026.

The profession is barely growing

According to the professional statistics of the German Federal Chamber of Tax Advisors, there were 89,549 tax advisors nationwide as of 1 January 2026, an increase of only 0.6% on the previous year (iww.de, Berufsstatistik 2025). At the same time, the number of apprenticeships for tax assistants fell to 17,081, which is 1.3% fewer.

For you this means: in our experience, many firms take on hardly any new clients, especially small GmbHs with a lot of receipt work. According to what we hear, existing clients are also dropped if they are not profitable for the firm. This is our impression from conversations with founders, not a statistical survey.

The fee schedule has become more expensive and more flexible

On 1 July 2025 the Steuerberatervergütungsverordnung (StBVV, the German tax advisor fee ordinance) was amended. According to the Tax Advisors’ Chamber of Cologne, tables A to D rose by around 6% on average and the hourly fee by around 9%, and billing is now done in quarter-hour units (StBK Köln, Änderung der StBVV zum 1. Juli 2025).

At the same time, the old § 14 StBVV on flat-rate fees was deleted. Flat fees now run under the general rules on fee agreements in § 4 StBVV (StBVV on gesetze-im-internet.de). Fixed prices have thereby become legally simpler. That explains why more firms advertise fixed prices in 2026.

What a GmbH without a finance department really needs

An operating GmbH with 5 to 50 employees has the same obligations every year:

  • ongoing bookkeeping in line with GoBD (German principles of proper accounting)
  • VAT returns (UStVA), usually monthly
  • where applicable, the EC Sales List for EU services
  • payroll, as soon as there are employees
  • annual financial statements under HGB (German Commercial Code), e-balance sheet, publication in the company register
  • corporate income tax and trade tax returns

On top of that comes e-invoicing. Since 1 January 2025, every business in Germany has to be able to receive electronic invoices. From 2027, businesses with prior-year revenue above EUR 800,000 must also issue them, and from 2028 all businesses must (§ 14 UStG and § 27 para. 38 UStG on gesetze-im-internet.de).

Publication is no minor detail. Under § 325 HGB, annual financial statements must be published no later than twelve months after the end of the financial year (§ 325 HGB). Anyone who misses this risks an administrative fine of EUR 2,500 to EUR 25,000 under § 335 HGB (§ 335 HGB).

The deadlines are closely linked. You can find an overview in our article on deadlines for corporations. Anyone offering a fixed price here must cover the whole cycle, not just the bookkeeping.

How do traditional firms bill, and what does a fixed price change?

Traditional firms mostly bill under the StBVV: bookkeeping under § 33 based on your revenue, annual financial statements under § 35 based on balance sheet total and revenue, payroll under § 34. A fixed price bundles these items into one plannable amount.

That sounds like a small difference. In practice it is a big one:

AspectBilling under StBVVFixed price
PredictabilityInvoice comes after the work, amount fluctuatesAmount is set in advance
Routine postingsEvery posting adds effortIncluded in the price
Queries and phone callsCan be billed as hourly feesUsually included in the scope
Special cases (tax audit, restructuring)Billed by effortUsually separate, but should be stated in advance
ComparabilityHardly any, because values varyHigh, if the scope is described

A fixed price is not an end in itself. It only works if the firm has its own costs under control. And in 2026, for routine postings, that works best with automation.

How is AI changing tax advice for GmbHs?

AI takes over the repeatable work: recognizing receipts, matching bank transactions, suggesting postings, preparing VAT. Tax advisors then focus on what requires judgment, that is, financial statements, returns and advice.

Businesses are catching up quickly. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis, press release November 2024; press releases from Destatis), about 20% of businesses with 10 or more employees used AI in 2024, up from 12% the year before. The digital association Bitkom reported in its 2025 company survey that about 36% of businesses in Germany use AI (Bitkom press area). You can find the exact sources in the respective press releases.

This is exactly why fair fixed prices become possible at all. A firm that posts every incoming invoice by hand has to bill by effort or build in buffers. A firm where the routine runs automatically can name a price and hold it.

What AI does well, and what it doesn’t

Well suited to automation:

  • reading receipts from email, upload or messenger and matching them to the bank transaction
  • recognizing recurring postings (rent, software subscriptions, salaries)
  • suggesting VAT codes and preparing the VAT return
  • flagging deviations, such as missing receipts or duplicate invoices

Not automatable, and that is a good thing:

  • accounting decisions, such as provisions or accruals
  • structuring questions such as salary vs. dividend or a holding structure
  • communication with the tax office on queries or audits
  • legal responsibility for returns

An online tax advisor with a fixed price should tell you exactly where the AI works and where a human reviews. If a provider claims everything runs fully automatically, ask who signs the annual financial statements.

Typical pitfalls in fixed-price offers

Most problems arise not in the price but in the small print. These are the four points we see most often in offers.

1. The fixed price only covers bookkeeping

Many entry prices cover only ongoing bookkeeping. Annual financial statements, e-balance sheet and tax returns come later as a separate invoice, often under the StBVV. For a GmbH, however, the financial statements are mandatory. A fixed price without financial statements is only half a fixed price for you.

2. Transaction limits without clear consequences

A price “up to 100 transactions per month” is fair if it is clear what happens from the 101st. Check whether you automatically slide into the next tier or whether individual postings are billed extra.

3. Tax advice through a partner firm

Some platforms are not a tax firm themselves. That is legitimate as long as it is transparent. But you should know with whom you conclude the tax advisory contract, who is liable, and whether you can ever reach the firm in person.

4. No trial access, only an offer on request

If you only learn a price after an intro call, you cannot compare providers. That need not be bad, but it makes the decision harder. Especially if you are looking for a new firm under time pressure.

How do you evaluate an online tax advisor for your GmbH?

Check licensing, scope of services, pricing logic, data storage and the way to switch. With these seven criteria you can compare offers in under an hour.

  1. Is the provider itself a tax advisory firm? Ask for the company name and the responsible tax advisors’ chamber. Check the details in the legal notice.
  2. How high is the professional liability insurance? The statutory minimum insured sum under § 52 DVStB is only EUR 250,000 per claim (§ 52 DVStB). Significantly higher coverage shows that the firm takes responsibility seriously.
  3. What exactly is included in the fixed price? Bookkeeping, VAT returns, annual financial statements, e-balance sheet, publication, corporate and trade tax, advice. Tick off each item individually.
  4. Is the price public and tied to clear metrics? Revenue bands or transaction counts are good. “Individual” is a warning sign for a standard GmbH.
  5. Do you keep control over submissions? Nothing should go to the tax office without your approval.
  6. Where is your data stored? For bookkeeping and payroll data, hosting in Germany is the sensible standard.
  7. Can you test and switch again? A free trial on your own numbers says more than any demo. And exporting your data should be possible without a fee.

If a provider dodges on point 1 or 3, you don’t need to check the other five.

Online tax advisors for GmbHs with fixed pricing compared 2026: boring.tax, Mika, Integral, Skalar and Resolvio

We compare five providers on six criteria that, from our perspective, matter most for a GmbH. Transparency note: boring.tax is itself one of the compared providers. The result is therefore not a neutral ranking, but a side-by-side of publicly available information.

Key figures compared directly

First the hard numbers. Where a provider does not publish a figure, the table says so. We don’t estimate anything, because an estimated liability sum won’t help you in the event of a claim.

Important on price: at EUR 49, Mika starts cheaper than the boring.tax tier “Without tax firm” at EUR 60. But that price does not include annual financial statements. For a GmbH, the comparison that matters is therefore with the full package from EUR 335, and for that we found no public price from any of the other providers.

The six criteria

The six criteria reflect our priorities, not an objective weighting. We chose them because they have concrete consequences for a GmbH:

  • Own, liable firm: You know with whom you conclude the tax advisory contract and who stands behind it in the event of a claim.
  • Public liability coverage: The statutory minimum is EUR 250,000 per claim. In the case of an error in the financial statements or a missed deadline, that can get tight.
  • Public price without an intro call: Only this lets you compare offers before you invest time in conversations.
  • Annual financial statements in the fixed price: The financial statements are mandatory for the GmbH and the most common reason for additional charges.
  • Do-it-yourself software tier: With a low posting volume you save money if you don’t need the full engagement right away.
  • Switching without data migration: If your GmbH grows or you want to do more yourself, the effort stays small.

If you set other priorities, such as a personal contact on site or specific industry experience, you will arrive at a different order. A check mark here means: publicly documented. A cross means: not available, or not found publicly by us.

boring.tax: public fixed price, own firm, free choice of tier

boring.tax combines AI bookkeeping and boring.tax Steuerberatungsgesellschaft mbH in one account. By our six criteria, boring.tax meets all six.

  • Strengths: public fixed price including annual financial statements (EUR 335 to EUR 890/month), own firm with EUR 4 million coverage per claim, three tiers (“Without tax firm”, “With boring bookkeepers”, “With tax firm and tax advisor”) without data migration, UStVA module with our own manufacturer ID straight to ELSTER, receipt intake via WhatsApp, email, upload or API, payroll portal, data in Germany, holding for EUR 500 a year in the same account
  • Limitations: payroll costs extra (EUR 20 per employee and month), special cases such as restructurings run outside the fixed price
  • Fits: operating GmbHs and UGs up to EUR 1 million revenue that want firm and bookkeeping from one source and want to know the price in advance
  • Trial: 14 days on your own numbers, no credit card and no sales call

You can find prices, modules and key figures further down in the section “Prices, modules and key figures of boring.tax”.

Mika: software with a partner firm

Mika is AI bookkeeping, but not a tax firm itself. The entry from EUR 49/month is public and EUR 11 cheaper than the boring.tax tier “Without tax firm”. Annual financial statements and tax returns run through a partner firm with a separate contract, and we found no public information on that firm’s liability insurance.

Integral: firm without a public price

Integral is a digital tax advisory with its own firm structure, so you have a direct contracting party. Prices and liability sum are not public; you get an individual offer after a conversation, and there is only the full engagement.

Skalar: fixed price only after an intro call

Skalar positions itself as an AI-first firm and works with fixed prices. You learn the concrete amount and the exact scope only after an intro call; we found no public liability sum.

Resolvio: too little publicly documented

Resolvio also appears in comparisons of digital tax advisory in 2026. We found no public information on an own firm, liability insurance or a GmbH full package with annual financial statements at a fixed price.

If you want to check Resolvio anyway, go through the seven criteria above one by one. Get in writing who your contracting party for tax advice is, how high the liability insurance is and what exactly the price covers.

And DIY software or the traditional firm?

Tools such as Lexware Office or sevDesk cover ongoing bookkeeping. For a GmbH’s annual financial statements, e-balance sheet and tax returns you still need a firm, which usually bills separately and often under the StBVV. With locally installed software, legal changes also often arrive only with an update that you have to install or buy yourself.

The firm down the street is licensed and liable. In our experience, fixed prices are rather rare there, billing is mostly under the StBVV, and new clients are often no longer accepted in 2026. This is our impression from conversations with founders, not a documented market statistic.

So the question is not “software or firm”. The question is how you get both at a price you know in advance, from a provider that stands behind it itself.

Prices, modules and key figures of boring.tax

Here are the facts about boring.tax so you can check them yourself: prices, modules and measurable differences.

The prices at a glance

All prices are net and are public in the pricing calculator. They depend on your revenue band, not on hours or queries.

TierPrice netWhat is includedWho submits the UStVA?

The two higher tiers by revenue band, side by side and net per month:

up to EUR 500,000between EUR 100 and EUR 400, exact value in the pricing calculatorEUR 705
up to EUR 1 millionEUR 400EUR 890

In every revenue band the firm tier is more expensive than the bookkeeper tier, because it additionally includes annual financial statements, e-balance sheet, publication, corporate tax, trade tax and advice. The range of EUR 100 to EUR 400 runs from the lowest to the highest revenue band.

The modules you use every day

  • Receipt intake: Receipts arrive via WhatsApp, email forwarding, upload or API. The AI reads them and matches them to the right bank transaction.
  • UStVA module: VAT is prepared on an ongoing basis. Since July 2026, the UStVA goes directly to ELSTER with our own manufacturer ID, with no detour through third-party software. More on this in our post on UStVA preparation and submission.
  • Invoices and reports: Outgoing invoices with dunning, incoming invoices with an approval process, plus BWA (management accounts), SuSa (trial balance) and P&L at the push of a button.
  • Payroll portal: Payroll for your employees at EUR 20 per head and month, in the same account as the bookkeeping.
  • Pricing calculator: your fixed price for your revenue band, before you sign up.

You can find all modules at a glance on the features page.

Measurable differences

How many postings the AI matches correctly on its own depends on your receipts and bank transactions. A blanket percentage would therefore be marketing, not information. In the 14-day trial you see the rate on your own numbers before you pay a single euro.

Switching between tiers in the same account

You switch between software, bookkeeping service and your own firm in the same account. The data stays where it is, and the tax advisory contract runs with boring.tax Steuerberatungsgesellschaft mbH.

With Mika you need a second contract with a partner firm for the financial statements. With Integral and Skalar, according to our research, there is only the full engagement. If your GmbH grows, at boring.tax you go up a tier. If you want to do more yourself, you go down. No new provider, no export, no fresh start.

Example: agency GmbH with EUR 400,000 revenue

A hypothetical calculation, not a customer story. A digital agency organized as a GmbH has EUR 400,000 revenue, 8 employees and around 150 bank transactions a month. The financial year equals the calendar year. Until now everything ran through a local firm.

Before: Receipts go to the firm in bulk via folder or upload, usually by the 10th of the following month. The BWA arrives six weeks later. The invoice for bookkeeping, payroll and financial statements fluctuates, because queries are billed as hourly fees. The 2024 annual financial statements only arrived in December 2025, just days before the publication deadline. Under § 325 HGB, the deadline for financial year 2024 ends twelve months after the end of the financial year, so on 31 December 2025.

After, with a fixed price and AI bookkeeping:

  • Receipts arrive via receipt intake by email forwarding or upload, and the AI matches them to bank transactions daily.
  • The UStVA module prepares VAT on an ongoing basis, and the tax advisory team reviews and submits it after approval.
  • Full package with firm in the revenue band up to EUR 500,000: EUR 705/month net.
  • Payroll for 8 employees via the payroll portal: 8 x EUR 20 = EUR 160/month net.
  • Total: EUR 865/month net, so EUR 10,380 a year, including annual financial statements, e-balance sheet, corporate and trade tax returns.

The example only holds if the 150 transactions a month are within the transaction limit of the revenue band up to EUR 500,000. You can see the limit per tier and revenue band in the pricing calculator. If you are above it, the price may differ from the example.

The decisive difference is not just the sum. The managing director knows it as early as January instead of learning it in December. You can see the exact price for your numbers in the pricing calculator.

How boring.tax supports you

You choose how much human help you need, and you can switch at any time in the same account. Behind the top tier stands boring.tax Steuerberatungsgesellschaft mbH, an own, liable tax firm with EUR 4 million professional liability insurance.

What works for you in the background

The bank is connected, receipts flow in through receipt intake. The AI matches, suggests postings and the UStVA module prepares VAT. In the firm tier, your tax advisory team reviews, prepares financial statements and returns, and advises you on questions such as salary or dividends.

boring.tax runs in the cloud, and updates arrive centrally. If an obligation changes, for example with e-invoicing, the team adapts the system and processes. You install nothing and migrate nothing. In the firm tier you receive two invoices, one from boring.tax and one from the tax firm, but one fixed total price.

You keep control

Nothing goes to the tax office without your approval or that of your tax advisory team. You decide whether you submit the UStVA yourself or the firm takes care of it. Your data is stored in Germany.

And if you want to switch right now?

A switch is easiest at the turn of the year, but it also works mid-year. Open months, old financial statements and the handover from your current firm can be planned. How the process works is described on the page about switching to boring.tax.

FAQ

Is an online tax advisor even allowed to agree fixed prices? Yes, fixed prices are permitted if they are agreed in writing as a fee agreement under § 4 StBVV. Since 1 July 2025 the old § 14 StBVV on flat-rate fees no longer exists, and flat fees now run under the general rules. New are §§ 4a and 4b, which regulate what applies if an agreement is below the statutory fee or is defective.

What does a tax advisor for a GmbH with a fixed price cost per month? For an operating GmbH up to EUR 500,000 revenue, full packages with bookkeeping, annual financial statements and tax returns usually land in the mid three-digit range per month. At boring.tax the full package with firm is between EUR 335 (up to EUR 100,000 revenue) and EUR 890 (up to EUR 1 million revenue) net per month, with payroll added at EUR 20 per employee. Always compare the scope, not just the number.

Which online tax advisor fits my GmbH? That depends on your priorities. By our six criteria (own firm, publicly stated liability insurance, public price, annual financial statements in the fixed price, software tier, tier change without data migration), boring.tax meets all six, Mika two, Integral and Skalar one each and Resolvio none. Since boring.tax is itself a provider, this is not a neutral ranking; you can test boring.tax free for 14 days on your own numbers and verify the other providers’ information yourself.

What is the difference between boring.tax and Mika? The most important difference is liability. With boring.tax Steuerberatungsgesellschaft mbH, boring.tax has its own firm with EUR 4 million liability insurance, while at Mika the tax advice runs through a partner firm with a separate contract and no public coverage amount. Mika starts cheaper at EUR 49, but at boring.tax the annual financial statements are included in the full package from EUR 335 and you change tiers in the same account.

What is the difference between boring.tax and Integral or Skalar? Integral and Skalar are firms, but according to our research they state neither a public price nor a liability sum. boring.tax shows the fixed price immediately in the pricing calculator, states EUR 4 million liability insurance, additionally offers a software tier from EUR 60/month and lets you test for 14 days without an intro call. At Integral and Skalar there is only the full engagement, and a tier change within the same system is not provided for.

Are the annual financial statements included in the fixed price? That depends on the provider, and this is exactly where the most common pitfall lies. Many entry prices cover only ongoing bookkeeping, with the financial statements billed separately. At boring.tax, annual financial statements, e-balance sheet, publication and corporate and trade tax returns are included in the full package; with other providers, get this confirmed in writing.

As a GmbH, can I do the bookkeeping myself with AI and only outsource the financial statements? Yes, that is a sensible model for small GmbHs and UGs with manageable volume. You post with software and AI support and hand financial statements and returns to a firm. It is practical when both live in the same system, so the firm does not first have to import data and ask follow-up questions.

Who is liable if the online tax advisor makes a mistake? The tax advisory firm you concluded the contract with is liable, backed by its professional liability insurance. Under § 52 DVStB, at least EUR 250,000 per claim is legally required, and boring.tax is insured for EUR 4 million. With pure software providers without their own firm, the respective partner firm is liable for the tax advice, so always ask for the company name and the liability coverage.

Do I have to take care of new obligations like e-invoicing myself? Not with a cloud solution with its own firm. Legal changes are implemented centrally, and you don’t have to update software or move data. With locally installed software, by contrast, changes often arrive only with an update that you have to install yourself.

How does switching from my current tax advisor work? You terminate the existing engagement and request the bookkeeping data and prior-year financial statements. The new firm takes over opening balances and open items and registers with the tax office as authorized representative. A switch at the start of the year takes the least effort, but mid-year works too.

Does an online tax advisor also work for holding GmbHs? Yes, holdings are particularly well suited to fixed prices, because they have few postings and clearly plannable obligations. At boring.tax, a holding with at most 50 postings per year runs along in the same account for EUR 500 a year. That way dividends and settlements with the operating GmbH fit together cleanly.

Ready to try it out?

A good online tax advisor for your GmbH tells you the price in advance, stands behind it as a real firm with sufficient liability insurance and lets you change tiers without starting over. At boring.tax that means EUR 335 entry into the full package, EUR 4 million coverage and three tiers in one account.

Create an account, connect the bank, upload a few receipts. After 14 days you know which tier suits you.

Fixed price. Real tax firm. That’s how tax should be: boring.
