AI annual accounts

About us

Founders want to run a company, not its bookkeeping.

boring.tax is the bookkeeping and tax platform for GmbHs and UGs. We build boring in Berlin so that receipts go in and the rest runs in the background: AI agents do the routine work, and you decide how much human help to add, up to our own tax firm.

Two companies

Who is behind boring.tax

Tax advice and software come from two companies with clearly separated tasks, working together in the same account.

Tax firm

boring.tax Steuerberatungsgesellschaft mbH

Our own tax advisory firm. In the full package and the holding package it submits your filings, prepares the annual accounts, corporate and trade tax returns and the e-balance sheet, advises you and is liable for that work, under a regular tax advisory engagement. In some cases a partner firm does this instead.

  • Based in Stuttgart
  • €4 million professional indemnity cover
Software

boring.legal GmbH

Builds and runs the boring platform: AI bookkeeping, VAT returns through its own ELSTER connection, reports, invoicing, the payroll portal and the boring MCP server, plus the boring accountants for ongoing bookkeeping. boring.legal GmbH does not provide regulated tax services itself.

How we work

What you can expect from boring

Six things we want to be measured by.

Receipts in, the rest done

You send receipts by upload, email or WhatsApp, and the AI agents book them as they arrive. Reports such as the BWA and trial balance are in your account at any time.

You choose how much human help

The software with the AI agent, plus boring accountants, or the full package with our tax firm. You change tiers in the same account, without migrating data.

Fixed, public prices

The software costs €60 a month, the full package with tax advice €335 to €890 a month depending on annual revenue. The calculator shows your price up front; nothing is billed by the hour.

Nothing without your approval

Nothing goes to the tax office that you or the tax advisory team have not approved.

Data in Germany

Your data sits in the boring Cloud on German servers, GoBD-compliant and mirrored in DATEV. You can export it at any time in DATEV or CSV format.

Built in the open

We contribute to mustangproject, the open-source library for e-invoices (ZUGFeRD/Factur-X, XRechnung).

FAQ

Questions about boring.tax as a company

Who is behind it, who uses boring and how software and tax firm work together.

Who is behind boring.tax?

Two companies. Tax advice, filings and annual accounts come from boring.tax's own tax firm, boring.tax Steuerberatungsgesellschaft mbH in Stuttgart, in some cases from a partner firm. boring.legal GmbH in Berlin builds and runs the software and does not provide tax advice itself; its managing directors are Juan Garcia-Berdoy Carvajal and Thomas Flassbeck.

How many companies use boring.tax?

In August 2026, more than 330 paying companies used boring.tax. Since July 2026, VAT returns can be submitted from boring straight to ELSTER with its own manufacturer ID, by you or by the tax advisory team of its own tax firm, boring.tax Steuerberatungsgesellschaft mbH.

Where is boring.tax based, and do I have to visit the tax firm?

The software comes from Berlin, the tax firm is based in Stuttgart. You work with both entirely online in the same account, without office visits or folders of receipts: receipts, bookings, reports and questions to your advisors all sit in boring.

Does boring.tax work with partner tax firms?

In some cases, yes. As a rule, tax advice comes from its own boring.tax Steuerberatungsgesellschaft mbH; in individual cases a partner firm from the boring network works with you instead, such as SOOVARY Keifer & Oppermann or Matussek. You then also sign a regular tax advisory engagement, and the firm works in the same data as you.
